URL: file:///Users/sykopoet/Documents/Clients3.dmgĠ: /Users/sykopoet/Documents/Clients3.dmg Let me know what you think and thanks so much I really appreciate the help. I continue to (foolishly?) hold out hope that there is some rescue possible, and if I have to shell out $90 for the full version of FileSalvage I will. Once I mounted the drive this morning, I was able to see it with the demo version of FileSalvage and confirm that at least some of my data is still in tact on the disk image. Has anyone had this problem and figured out how to fix it? These are very important files and I need to get them back if at all possible. I don't want to go shelling out more money for some recovery program that isn't actually going to work. I downloaded the demo version of Disk Drill to see what it could do, but I don't trust it because it's telling me it has recovered a bunch of pics and videos off the dmg, but there was nothing like that in there. I tried restoring through Disk Utility and no luck. I tried creating a new image through Disk Utility, but the new image won't mount either. Every time I try, it says "no mountable file systems." I have googled and futzed for days, have made sure the dmg is read/write, have tried forcing it to mount through the terminal, and nothing has worked. Now that I am home with my newly formatted HDD and the external from the data recovery place, I cannot get the password protected dmg file I created in Disk Utility to mount. I needed to get my data off the computer though, so I took it to a data recovery place that managed to get everything on to an external HDD. I took the machine to the Apple Store, where the said the HDD was toast, needed to be reformatted and Yosemite reinstalled. A few days ago, my MacBook Pro out of nowhere crashed out and when it restarted, it would only come up to a circle with a line through it (the dreaded do not enter). (yes, i know I should have backed up the drive, but I do non-profit video production for non-profit organisation, so the budget isn't there for that many hard drives to back up video projects being worked on.Ok all, I hope someone can help me with this. I am a Mac User of 20 years, and have no connection with either software I have mentioned. I implore you: check out your other options. Then I was recommended Data Rescue, and downloaded a demo, which took all of 5 minutes to show me every single file on the drive, with correct names and folder structure! Sadly the money does not stretch far enough to spend another $100, but I so wish I had purchased Data Rescue instead of this tragedy. Most fo the drive contents were a mystery to me still. Only around 20gb of the data retrieved would even open in any format. The software crashed so many times, hanging part way through it's Thus, 3 days later, and I had several partial retrieves of up to about 70 gb of data, mostly unreadable, unrecognisable, and having lost any names or folders that rendered it largely useless. Mostly video files, of the type it says it will retrieve for you. I wasted 3 days trying to get it to 'salvage' 180gb of data from a hard drive which would not mount. Unfortunately I shelled out the $79 for File Salvage, having read some positive reviews elsewhere.
